The Importance of Remembering (God's word)

The importance of remembering Gods word; part 1

The Lord constantly in his word admonishes us to remember His word and all the mighty works that He has done for His people. For some reason, probably because of our fallen nature, we as humans have to be continuously reminded about a lot of things.Wether they be important or insignificant events in our lives, we need reminders to bring those events back to the forefronts of our minds. Calendars, alarms, pasty notes, even the occasional message on the palms of our hands are a few methods that are used to help remember stuff.
All throughout the old and new testaments are exhortations and warnings from God to think upon the mercies of God and what thus saith the Lord. The following are scriptures that speak of the forgetfulness of the people. Psalm 106:7 "Our fathers when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wonderous works, they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea,at the Red Sea."  Isaiah 17:10 For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have remembered the Rock of your refuge, therefore, though you plant pleasant plants and sow the vine-branch of a stranger. 11. though you make them grow on the day that you plant them, and make them blossom in the morning that you sow, yet the harvest will flee away in a day od grief and incurable pain.." Ezekiel 16:22 " And in all your abominations and your whorings you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, wallowing in your blood." And finally Ezekiel 16:43 says " Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have enraged me with all these things, therefore, behold, I have returned your deeds upon your heads, saith the Lord God: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness above all thine abominations." So we see definite consequences for forgetting the word of God, to do it. James engourages believers to be " ...doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your own selves." James 1:22.
